Baragwi Nyanja

Each month we turn the page with a new coffee — a single origin chosen for its story, its flavour, and the way it connects us to the land it comes from..

We’re half way through September selection —Baragwi Nyanja, whose story really begins in Kenya’s Kirinyaga region, at the foothills of Mount Kenya.

Here, Baragwi Nyanja grows in fertile red volcanic soil, nourished by cool nights and steady rainfall.

The elevation slows the ripening of the cherries, allowing complex sugars and bright acidity to develop over time.

Each harvest is handpicked with care, the result of generations of farmers who understand the rhythm of their land.

It is this combination of soil, altitude, and human patience that gives Baragwi Nyanja it’s distinctive character — a coffee shaped as much by place as by the people who tend it.

In the cup, it reveals blackcurrant, citrus brightness, and a honeyed sweetness that lingers.

A profile that feels both vibrant and balanced, sharp yet soft — the essence of Kenyan coffee.

To drink it is to taste more than origin. It is to glimpse the highlands, the soil, and the care of those who tend it.

It is to glimpse the highlands in morning light, the red soil that roots each tree, and the patient care of hands that harvest each cherry.

Baragwi Nyanja, here for this month, and only for a while.
