Celebrate your progress, even the tiniest steps..
We spend so much time waiting for the obvious milestones to feel like we are succeeding.
The finished project, the promotion. The bigger number in the account. The moment something finally looks the way we imagined it would, but most progress happens long before any of that.
For many of us, most progress happens long before any of that. It is usually much quieter — in the small decisions, the routines we keep returning to, and the moments that do not necessarily look important while we are living through them.
Like showing up when you would rather stay home or finally sending the email you have been avoiding.
Saving a little more than last month, reading a few pages and even trying again after something did not work the first time.
In the moment, a lot of those things do not always feel significant, so we tend to move past them quickly. We tell ourselves we will celebrate when we get there, but when we do, it soon becomes normal and before long there is already somewhere else we think we should be.
There is nothing wrong with wanting more for ourselves, but something that’s also important is noticing what has already changed too…
The things that feel easier now, the habits that are beginning to stick, the way we handle something differently, or the fact that something we once hoped for has quietly become part of our everyday life.
There will always be another goal, another plan and another thing to work towards. So every now and then, it is worth looking back rather than forward and giving yourself a little credit for how far you have already come..
Progress does not always need to look dramatic to count. Sometimes it is simply realising that you are not where you were a few months ago, even if you are still not where you want to be.
Maybe that is the part we should get better at — recognising the tiniest, everyday signs of progress while we are still in the middle of it all.
